About the Author

Viarnne Mischon is a multi-award-winning radio & podcast producer, bestselling novelist, and the founder/executive producer of the School Broadcasting Network Inc – an Australian charity dedicated to giving young people a global voice in creating the world we all wish to live in. Viarnne’s audio stories for children include ‘An Antechinus in the Attic’, ‘There is a Unicorn in My Garden’, ‘Goldilocks and the Three Koalas’ and ‘Page 9’, as well as ‘Fred the Freight Train’, which she co-wrote with Virginia Wise.
How it all began…
“My father was a passionate conservationist and brilliant storyteller, and when I was a child, I would listen with both fascination and considerable concern to his story of ‘Percy the Goldfish’. Poor Percy was left somewhat abandoned in an algae-filled aquarium and the tale of this little goldfish nearly suffocating in his own eutrophying glass bowl taught me at a very early age the importance of a healthy and balanced ecosystem for all living things to survive and thrive.
It was then, before I had even started kindergarten, that I decided one day I too would write stories to inspire children to care for our beautiful planet and all the amazing creatures of our wonderful world – just like my father had done for me. I started to write ‘An Antechinus in the Attic’ for my own children when they were toddlers, though the story was never finished amidst the life of a busy family. Then when Google contacted SBN in 2018 about producing an anthology of bespoke Australian audio stories for children for the Google Home’s Tell Me a Story platform in Australia, ‘An Antechinus in the Attic’ sprang out of a long hibernation!”
